@digitalradiohacker This the very reason for which I sought for an alternative to what used to be skype. And I found Wire secure messenger, which does not require a phone number. You can use one, if you want. Or you can use an e-mail address. But Rob Braxman is right, the best is the one that does not even require an e-mail. I used to use IRC back in the 2000s and it was great, but is is no longer *popular*, like facebook and whatsapp. And yes, whatsapp is the worst of them all, even worse than facebook itself/ messenger. Because it FORCES you to stay connected to a mobile device and to a phone number, even when you do not want to use a mobile device. This is why Telegram or Signal are better. But Wire is even better, since it asks no phone number. Wire was created by the team that made Skype (before they got to be grabbed by Micro$oft). The good thing about Telegram is that it gives you a user ID, that you can give to those you wish to contact you, without the need to give them your number (or so I think).
I have recently made myself a brax.me account. I still have no idea how to create a group chat in there.
