Yes, I know what you are saying. It is an idea that many others have discussed before. (Is the red that I am seeing the same red you are seeing?).
My opinion is that "No, we are not seeing the same red". My reasoning is that all humans have differences. Even when a joke is told, both of us may laugh, but perhaps you will laugh harder and longer than me. This means to me that whatever is going on in our brain is similar but there are differences.
Experiments on the brain have shown that all humans have the same brain architecture: the visual processing area is in the same location, verbal processing area is in the same location, etc. I think that differences are small. It would be interesting to map out the brain at the neuron level (Which neuron is connected to which). As far as I know, this has not been done yet. There are 3 billion neurons in the human brain and 10 quadrillion interconnections. It is too tedious to watch it under a microscope and draw it on paper or model it on a computer, one neuron at a time.
As for my light bulb comment, I'm not saying that is what I believe. It is something I have considered. Obviously, when most people hear the word "consciousness", they think of the human brain and don't consider that anything else has similar properties.

Gravity and light are material. So is space. Perhaps the word material makes you think of atoms. In any case, certain things exist and their effects can be observed. Love, soul, ideas, numbers, fairies, gods, angels, demons, language, colors, software don't exist and have no effect on reality. They can be represented with materials.

"No, space is not material, in fact, the very definition of space is the absense of material."
==Again, like I said, it depends on what your definition of material is. Are you talking about atoms?
I'm not saying space is made of atoms but it is something with its own properties. Atoms are also "things" with their own properties. They are made of subatomic particles, such as protons. Protons are also things that have their own properties.
Love, soul, ideas, numbers, fairies, gods, angels, demons, language, colors, software, etc don't have any kind of property and don't exist on their own.
EXAMPLE: 1. A human which can experience love, is made of a large numbers of molecules that interact.
2. A book about mathematics can symbolize numbers, but numbers don't exist. The numbers in the book are made of ink, which is made of various molecules.
3. A CD with Win XP on is an arrangement of molecules that symbolize Win XP (a software).

"And I suppose, even with that definition, that light is in fact, matter."
==Not exactly. Light cannot be slowed down or accelerated. It is only when it passes through something denser than space, such as our atmosphere, water, glass, that it's speed goes down and wavelength goes down. I'm not exactly sure why that happens.
Also, photons don't interact with each other. Light passes through light, which is good because it makes seeing possible. Photons don't collide like bowling balls collide with each other.
"We still don't know what light really is"
"And we have no idea what gravity really is. "
==One can ask, what is Earth made of. The answer is various silicates, oxides, etc. Then you can ask, what are those. You have magnesium silicate, which is made of atoms. A Magnesium ion is made of 12 protons, 10 electrons, 12 neutrons. Protons are made of smaller particles: quarks and gluons. At some point, you get to the lowest level.
So, it becomes hard to describe what these things are. We can only describe their properties.
"Your examples are good, but those examples don't account for the unexplained phenomenon, that is called consciousness"
==I think consciousness is a hard problem. It is unlikely that it will be understood completely.
"Are the letters conscious, because they are formed in a certain way out of matter just like people are? What about computers?"
==I have considered that. Perhaps all the interactions happening on Earth represent some kind of consciousness.
In any case, intelligence/consciousness comes from circuits. Humans have neural circuits. Computers have electronic circuits. Even the very simple "light bulb" connected to your house makes a simple circuit.
