Donald says that the USA is subsidising Canada with 200 G$. So where is my cheque?

@MickeyShermie What is PBD? Donald says that Mexico will pay to build their wall. Nope, Mexico won’t pay. They (USA) setup a federal fund and they(USA) transferred some money into it and that is how they(USA) are paying for it. As for tariffs on canadian goods, Canada does not pay tariffs. It is the importer on the US side that pays. The money goes to the US government, probably into some bank account. There is a reason why Donald claimed to place a 60% tariff on Chinese goods and then, he reduced to 10%. It would have crippled their economy. They would not be able to buy PCs, TVS, radios, toys, some cloths. He is going to have a hard time convincing US companies to move manufacturing to the USA. You are going to have a hard time convincing your new hires to accept below minimum wage pay.

@honieebean Potash comes from mines. The mines are in Saskatchewan. I think they convert it to potassium chloride and sell it in that form. You can produce some impure potassium carbonate by burning wood but that is not how it is produced industrially. Certain compounds are very important for agriculture, such as the production of NO2 which is then converted to nitric acid which is then used to make potassium nitrate or calcium nitrate. They also mine a lot of calcium phosphate from elsewhere. The phosphate is very much needed by plants. Someone also produces ammonia which is used directly or it is converted to NH4NO3. To make all those chemicals mentioned previously, the primary source of energy is petrol.

@ Yes, the USA is building a wall but they are going to pay for it themselves. There isn’t much mystery to tariffs. It raises the price of a foreign product. The idea is for people to buy the same product locally, which tends to be more expensive. They might have other options, such as buying from another foreign source. The USA might have to buy more petrol from Saudi Arabia. They might have to buy potash from another source. I’m not sure what Donald’s point is. The USA economy has always be better than Canada, they have had much lower unemployment, lots of great tech jobs, lots more opportunities. They are now getting into internal arguments about canceling H1B visas. Are their long lineups of university students that are jobless over there?

@ We have an army + if necessary, the people can volunteer. Like I said, Our allies can join us. If we choose, we can make Russia a friend. It is important to have friends. It is important to have NATO. If the USA wants to be hostile, then Europe, Australia will see the USA as hostile as well. Under those conditions, I would replace USA by Russia in NATO.

@googleapocalypse1967 My point is that hate doesn’t work. War doesn’t work. War and hate lasts for generations. It is not a solution. Look at the case between israel and palestine. That will never end. Look at the case between ukraine and russia. That will never end. Look at the case between Turkey and Armenia. Even between native americans and english, there is some healing, some reparations but there will always be feelings of hate. Somehow, after the WW1 and 2 events, europe was able to get along with each other. It looks like the hate is gone.
