Partisanship at its finest I can’t believe what a just heard. For all the things I thought of conservatives, disrespecting democracy was definitely not one of them until now

This is like gerrymandering at the highest level

@dennisfischer7676 well, grow a spine and play the politics. If you can just walk away from a bad election, what’s stopping southern Texas kicking out the north and becoming a blue state? You can’t just redraw election border cuz you lose, that’s called gerrymandering. If these people want to be heard, start convincing other people in their state instead of crying to a reporter

@dennisfischer7676 I don’t agree with adding justices. But as for DC statehood, I think it’s justified because they pay tax and is legally US citizen. Considering federal government doesn’t really hold referendums, how else can DC residents participate in federal politics?
1
@dennisfischer7676 if you are talking about the elected officials, they certain should not be considered DC resident. As for the massive bureaucracy, that’s normal for any country that’s the size of America. As for DC, I don’t mind letting ppl vote in Maryland and Virginia, but that’s against the constitution. So, what do you say, do these people have the right to vote?
1
@dennisfischer7676 freedom of movement: Americans have the right to live anywhere within US territory. Forcing people to leave DC is also against the constitution. So, I ask you again, how do they get representation? And how can one make an argument as ridiculous as “just leave the city”? Do the city not need police? Fire department? Hospital? Restaurant workers for our corrupted politicians? How is that ever going to happen? Eminent domain the entire city?
1
@dennisfischer7676 that doesn’t answer the question. As long as DC exist as the capitol of the country there will always be a city with large population. You can cut government job but only 7% of DC resident work for the government. Edit: I don’t understand the fixation of republicans cutting federal jobs. Military and foreign aid cost more than most agency’s budget, isn’t that what most of your lobbyist work. Not to mention these spendings create actual jobs, not the ones that have you deliver boxes for 7.25$ an hour.

@dennisfischer7676 you know what was not a city as well? Every single US city before the European came! Ofc DC was not a city, but it is now, with the entire infrastructure of a city, with the permanent population of a city. Oh sure we are gonna casually spike unemployment and force 700k people to leave a city. Listen to yourself, we started out talking about suffrage and somehow skewed to planning the worst humanitarian crisis, does this really represent the conservatives value?
1
@dennisfischer7676 yea and we said slavery was ok back then. You know I’m open to allowing DC resident to vote in neighbouring state, the issue at hand is not DC statehood but freedom of travel and universal suffrage

@chaosXP3RT You can’t possibly think border can be moved by a simple vote, right?
