See I just can’t wrap my head around the idea that fetus is consider alive. As a student of biology, it really is technically a part of the mother’s body until 8 months

@kenzie dreams it’s actually 21 weeks I think, but isn’t it recognized that any infant born before 28 weeks has no more than 50% survival rate?

@memerton the great coming from a student of biology, fetus really doesn’t carry any special meaning. I assume your idea of “brain activity” is the fact the fetus tries to stay alive? The problem is, every cell in our body does that. I think what defines a human is empathic ability, which comes after birth. I think as along as technology permits, abortion should be available at any stage of pregnancy.

@brianakoertner8158 yea, but that is not significant in terms of biology. That just mean there is an electric signal in the cardiac cells. It’s like saying changing saying teeth make you an adult. No one in biology says that, it’s only politicians and activists

@researchdesignz well, to answer your blizzard of questions. My undergrad is in biochem, my grad study is in developmental genetic. And to answer why 8 month, is because that is the earliest of most early deliveries are. And yes I am aware hurting a pregnant woman is considered double homicide (and that is the law, which I’m not talking about). I don’t really hold a position on abortion, but I am extremely annoyed by either side trying to use science as some sort of evidence. There is absolutely no scientific bases on why abortion should be legal or not. You want one? We have the technology. You want to ban it? Sure, but don’t say it’s the “scientific” thing to do. And somehow you think just because a surgery is bloody and not beneficial to the patient’s health it is wrong? Well, allow me to tell you thing little industry called plastic surgery, where people risk getting their face ruined to look pretty. You want to ban risky surgeries? Then ban plastic surgery along with it.

@kenzie dreams that sounds like cherry-picking papers. I’m pretty sure a majority of research recognize 28 as the cut off Edit: 90% after 26 does not sound right. It sounds like the research is only done to Beverly Hill

@brianakoertner8158 the so called “heartbeat” is just the electrical signal in the cardiac cell. It’s not significant in the sense that it doesn’t define life.

@nancybornyi5440 I draw the line where woman can give birth and the infant can survive on its own without the need for intensive care

Hey look it’s mostly white people, how surprising.

Hawra Ahmed call me a psychopath but any form of life is just a bunch of chemical arranged in an organized fashion.

@roz0971 well, if the hospital have the capability to save it, then no one is stopping them. 2 months premature would mean intensive care, and if the mother wants it, she should be provided with it. But if the woman refuses, either due to personal or economical reason, no one should force her to keep it. The hospital can save it sign the baby up for adoption if he/she survive
