If we outsourced “good paying job”, then why is China accused of running “sweat shop”? Maybe they are not so good paying at all?

@TheEvolver311 alright, you wanna have an actual conversation? Which trade agreement are you talking about? Clinton’s NTR? Trump’s trade war? Or Nixon era strategies? So, outsourcing, tell me, how do you maintain normal relationship without outsourcing? Imposes more tariff so Vietnam and Thailand get richer? Forces the companies to stay in US while shipping raw materials from oversea? Ever considered the consumer market? Ever considered the companies begging more relief? Look, no one like to trade and invest in China, but no one can resist the cheap labour either. Putting policies on this is like forcing you to eat your own sh*t.

@TheEvolver311 Smith has too much faith in the open market, but he wasn’t wrong with competitiveness. American labour simply can’t compete with developing countries labour, because the cost of living and union protection. The current populist logic in America is “I want service market, but also manufacture market”. Well you need to choose one, you can’t have both. If China can’t compete with you in term of labour cost, do you rather prefer them to compete with US in financial service? IT? The industry that feeds more Americans than those “outsourced” jobs? Wake up, your country’s market is no longer suited for steal factory worker, for car manufacturers. Your factories are decade old while China is investing billions into automated assembly lines. I just don’t see why America think some Asian country stole their jobs. No, you guys transitioned, moved to a better market, or do you prefer working 5 dollar an hour for 12 hours each day, 6 days a week? Additionally, trade with China is far more than an economic issue. Nixon befriended China to fight against USSR, which is arguably the most important geopolitical move in the Cold War era.

@TheEvolver311 smith argued that localism counteract the market, he didn’t support it, he simply made the observation. Plus, how could he support localism while pushing for free trade?
