@martin.371 There are no facts in this politician's spoken words. Here are the real facts from the official US census. From 1992 to 2021, bottom 20%, $9,586 to $22,117, next 20%, $23,121 to $54,977, middle 20%, $36,527 to $88,958, next 20%, $53,094 to $137,649, highest 20%, $155,557 to $538,470. These are average family incomes of each 20%. You will please note that not one group has had an income decrease in the last 30 years. Another lying politician. Do your own research before you spout off.

@Shenzhou. Absolutely. The forty years from 1980 when China started to industrialize have given them a huge boost. The problem is you can only do that once. Already China's advantage in labour costs is eroding and the only reason industrial might remains is the sunk infrastructure costs. This shows up with other Asian countries taking over parts of the supply chain. The demographic problem is the worst, with China growing old before it grows rich.

@daisyfong9842 Poverty hit a peak in 1993 and again in 2010 at 15.1%. It is now at 11.6% up from a low of 10.5% in 2019 This rise is due to Covid 19 and the aftermath of the 2008 financial crisis. Yes, San Francisco is probably the worst example of the effects of high cost of housing, gentrification and the opioid crisis.

@Shenzhou. No. You stated that "America is the only major developed society where the average income of the bottom 50% has gone down over a 30-year period". This completely wrong. The last 40 years, China has benefited from going from a subsistence farming economy to an industrial one. This can only be done once and even so the poverty line in China is considered to be $1.70 US per day by the World Bank.

@Shenzhou. I googled them and could not find anything about average income of the bottom 50%. There was a lot about the lack of education leading to drug use and lower mortality, especially in the hinterland in a paper they wrote in 2015. Please elaborate. I got my information mainly from the US Census. It demonstrates the opposite. You can see the figures in other replies.
