Paul had received word that there were Christians in the community of Thessaloniki that were disruptive and abusing the generosity of the church to meet their needs since they had given up working because they thought Christ was about to return thus making worldly activities meaningless...the caller was right except the disruptive activities are not mentioned in the text but it sounds reasonable...the closest translation would be busybodies...the text has nothing to do with modern day unemployment due to corporate crimes or other conditions
