Do people tip doctors? No. Because they get a high salary. Do they tip the nurses? No. Do they tip the person who checks you in? No. Do they tip the janitorial staff who keep the place clean? No. Do we tip teachers? No. Do we tip firemen or policemen? No. Do we tip the military especially the junior members who don’t make much? No. I can go on but all of those people do not receive high pay and they provide a service as well. They are doing their job and many have to deal with ungrateful people. We expect their management or company to pay them for doing their job. This should be the attitude for all jobs and companies should not be able to get away with paying people chump change because they expect the customer to pay more for service.

This shouldn’t be a tip issue, it is a salary issue. Tips should be optional. If I spend $100 for something, it is the companies responsible to manage that money properly to make sure their employees are getting their rightly amount and not expect the customer to pay $100 plus more. When I was in New Delhi, the tour guide lectured me on tips. If I pay a lot of money for a tour, it is that company responsibility to pay their employees for that service. If I want to tip, that’s my choice. And, I’m coming from the point where I tip well because I want to but if I have to, I will not. My money, my choice.
