  1. Ornamentation for ornamentation’s sake is indeed tac. Objectively. But functional features that are ornamented are not. For example, the exposed brass tacks in upholstery. The exposed tacks are already beautiful, but the heads sometimes have a design that gives it something extra. It’s different from going to a big box store and buying mass produced decorations that serve no purpose.

  10. No the real reason is quality is unaffordable. Nobody thinks a depressing suburban tract house or cheap section 8 apartment in the ghetto is quality of life unless they’re ignorant. Ignorant people are mentallly unwell even if they think they live well.Function is only beautiful if organic materials like wood and stone are used but again cost prohibitive..

  12. Really? According to biologists, Beauty is NOT subjective. For example, nobody in their right mind is going to pay a plastic surgeon to give them Barbara Streisand’s nose. And no professional surgeon would do it. There are many vernaculars of architecture are beautiful and the fact the that you personally don’t like classical does not make it objectively tacky. It’s just not your preference. Doesn’t make it bad taste, just not your preference. Cheap architecture is objectively tacky. Sounds like you got the ideological version of “education” where standards don’t exist. Uneducated people believe no differently as they don’t know any better.
