  18. You mention a few things in your comment that we wanted to clear up, for you and for other readers here. We took on this topic because we wanted to find out how weed affects brain activity, and we wanted to test marijuana for THC and CBD levels. Our tests were part of our efforts to better understand the drug before it becomes legal to consume recreationally in Canada. We spoke to doctors, scientists, botanists and other experts to try to understand how pot has changed, and what that might mean for recreational smokers. We worked with these experts to design the tests, and to help us unpack the results. We didn't enter this story with any bias or agenda; we followed the research where it took us. The brainwave test in our show took place over several hours, but while we edited that footage down, it does accurately portray the test. What we discovered in that test was that brainwave patterns found in our testers after smoking pot are the type you would see in people having schizophrenia-like symptoms. Does that mean pot makes you schizophrenic or psychotic? No. For most people, their brainwaves go back to normal after the high subsides. But for people with developing brains, many scientists and mental health experts believe that there can be negative consequences to regularly using pot that has very high THC and very low (or no) CBD. This is what some experts are alarmed about: Not how this affects normal adults, but what this could mean for teens and young adults. One area that many of our experts agree on: A likely consequence of legalization is the opportunity to study and test marijuana more openly to find more of these answers.
