Legal Aid should be cut completely for people that are repeatedly accused of offences or those committing them, it is being misused and legal people are scamming the system to get paid a fortune. Old systems of fees were misused as many Judges are partners of barristers chambers, many barristers also sit as Judges - hearings are put in to lists in such a way that the fee scheme can be used to get maximum payments on each day and for each case. They also seem to be put in for people to run from one hearing to another for multiple payments. The Graduated Fee scheme did allow abuse and barristers were earningup to £750K a year through Legal Aid. Not many customers are private payers in criminal cases. Why should the taxpayer foot the bill? Interpreters also saw cuts. They would be paid a daily rate plus travel expenses. That was cut to only being paid for the actual time they interpreted. A full days pay went down to maybe one or two hours. That's what happens if people get greedy and want more all the time. People should have been happy with what they managed to get as complaining backfired.
