To the autor: Spain, under Franco, is the only country in the world that defeated communism in war. Franco's regime was not nazism or fascism, it was National Catholicism, based on the purest values of the West. The economy was based on autarky caused by the economic isolation fostered by the traitorous and anarcho-communist government in exile, a government that also came to power by rigging the elections and with several coups d'état in addition to violence unleashed on conservative Spain, which included shootings of thousands of prisoners including children for ideological, class and religious reasons, looting, burning of churches and convents, rape of nuns, murders, including opposition leaders and even crucifixions and torture in the so-called chekas, centers illegal detention.
After defeating the communist hordes, overcoming the blockade, preventing Spain from entering the World War, convincing the allies of the legitimacy of the government and not receiving a Marshall Plan, the Spanish economy began to grow more than double that of the rest of the west world, including the USA and reaching eighth position in the world in record time ahead of Italy. This included repopulation plans in the interior, communications, ports, dams, trains, airports, 8 million officially protected or free homes, thousands of public schools and hundreds of universities with a much higher level than the current one.
Depopulation is precisely a recent phenomenon, especially due to the decline in the birth rate, the abandonment of the different socialist governments and the search for urban living conditions and the lack of competitiveness of Spanish agriculture with distant countries that do not pay tariffs for unfair competition. Socialism also mortgaged Spanish industry in exchange for financing from the German socialism to achieve power. Furthermore, the tax pressure went from being almost zero during the Franco regime to taking more than 50% of per capita income, higher burdens than in the Nordic countries.
During Franco's 36 years, 1.6 million Spaniards left Spain, almost all of them to return, without or with very basic studies, with agreements with other countries through the Spanish Emigration Institute, although in Spain there was work to give away.
