  1.  @hellcatdave1  Yeah, add German politics to that, someone needed an excuse to say that "the government sucks and ignores this very important problem". P.S. In the media - it's terrible, it's zero floats all around! In reality - guys return from Afghanistan and do re-zeroing only once, because back home we (in my case it's Latvia) live several kilometers lower - at the sea level, so aim got to be adjusted due to different pressure. As far as I know they zero them for a 400m distance, no problems. Do handguards melt? Well, if you try REALLY hard - yes, it's possible. I saw a video interview with one of Latvian Army's armorers, he just got two such G36KV3's. His statement : "shit like this never happens in combat zone, only home out of boredom", those two guns came from the range, where two soldiers ran an improvised "torture test", so armorer changed burned out barrels on both guns, but left the same deformed handguards on them, to teach a lesson. XD

  2.  @BicMac18  Not me, only handled it a bit on one of our independence restoration celebrations, when our firefighters, police and army, air forces, national guard, border guard etc had sort of open doors day. IMO it seemed surprisingly light, however M4's that our NATO partners had (US 173rd paratroopers in that particular case) are almost a full kilogram lighter. But never shot any of them. Some say, G36 was a cheaper option than the other guns Germans might have designed at that time, but Germany's reunification happened just a few years prior, so they needed to save money in all ways possible.
