Last year scrapped my 27yo VW Golf, which I had for 9 years, switched to 17yo AUDI, but then had to also switch job, so next time might have to go for Toyota, used and old, of course. One thing is sure, compared to very basic VAG car to a more comfy one makes a big difference, it's not even about tech, it's all those little convinient things, like ilumination in leg niches and under doors, also feels much more saafe when taking corners at speed.

I'm not a good driver (by strict European standards, not lose American ones), so I'd definitely love backup camera, but my car is too old to had one by default, maybe I'll look for an aftermarket options.
- electronic parking brake - got it;
- adaptive cruise control - I wish, but again - my car is too old to have one and not of a top trim either;
- brake hold - would love to have it, as I'm handicapped and currently use hand controls, that would provide me more freedom, but as of now I just switch to gearbox to "P", if I want both my hands free;
- More stable is new to you?! Not really an issue with European cars as it is with American ones due to insanely soft suspension on US cars.
Bad things:
- electronic gearshift would make sense, if it was in the form of sporty paddles under steering wheel of something like that;
Electronic door open and camera "mirrors' must die! Neither should have ever been a thing, except opening and closing really huge doors, like those on Rolls-Royce. Essential buttons must be physical, not a part of infotainment system.

Just gave away my 27 years old car to scrap, owned it for 8 years. Here in my country climate is humid all year around, and in winters salt is applied to roads, which makes corrosion even worse, as combination of snow and salt sticks everywhere on the underside.
Perhaps I would keep it running, but my health is failing, which forced me to move form a manual stick shift to automatic one (I'm handicapped, but still can walk a bit, drive a car, even ride a bicycle), so got to drop the old car, as it no longer made sense to spend a single eurocent on it.
And my "new" car... Well, i as inspected before buying. Rust is not a problem, BUT three weeks after I bought it, timing chain skipped over (terrible vibrations, "check engine" light etc). Got it to service, they also replaced all spark plugs and engine ventilation pipe, plus oil change, of course. All parts in total cost 1100 Euros, plus same amount of money for job (taking whole front off and taking engine out). That was unpleasant surprise, but at least now it runs fine, really love it, while it's old, but like two classes higher in comfort than my old car, besides despite being larger and heavier, it can also take corners faster.
P.S. I actually tried to buy a "Toyota", but run into a problem, I've only heard car bloggers talking about previously - when you try to buy a cheaper car, it's really hard to meet the guy selling it. Like... Why?! Are you selling it or not?! 😳 The fact, that I needed to meet the seller AND to arrange inspection with a specialist, turned it into mission impossible. So I had to drop that option and take what I could - a German one, which is not as reliable and is more expensive to keep in running order.

47 thousandth miles?! That's 75'000km, thus at least 7,5 times longer on the same oil I would have let it run, it's awful! Just how?!
P.S. And I currently drive almost 20 years old AUDI with aluminium block engine, which are FAMOUS for oil consumption, and it's nowhere as bad as this one (I'm adding around 250-310ml per 1000km, which is around half quart per 1000 miles, and even that might soon be fixed to some degree), despite the fact, that AUDI was quite neglected by previous owners, judging by the state of plugs, foggy headlights, dark gearbox liquid and wheel alignment when I got it. I get that people neglect old cars (especially former luxury cars - car is old and cheap, yet maintenance is expensive), because they have no money to do everything properly, but damaging a new one can't be explained by anything else than stupidity.
