I did buy a nicer car than I should have, but I was in slight panic, as my health kept failing - I barely can walk more than 700-800 meters on my own without stopping for rest (my spinal cord is damaged, so it needs to "recharge", before I can keep on moving again), which also makes using public transport extremely challenging - I had to get to it first.
Anyways, I had to get a new car with automatic transmission - not that common yet here in Europe.; an universal (what you might call "a station wagon"), and a gasoline one, not a diesel. Reasonable choice would have been Toyota, but run into some troubles contacting owner of one of those. No idea why is that, but everyone says, if you want to buy a cheap car, getting to see it or meet seller might be a problem. So I ended up with AUDI, which is not exotic here, as Germany is nearby, but still nowhere near as reliable and cheap to maintain as Toyota would have been.
Morale of the story (if there even is one) is - we don't always have the luxury of making perfectly rational choices.
In theory, I will save a lot of money in summer doing commuting on a bicycle, except it was getting more and more harder. Not sure, if I still make it to work. Riding is not even the hardest part, it's getting of bike on the other end, when control over my legs is weak due to neural fatigue, but falling with bike is not that awful, has happened to me a couple of times in a couple recent years.
