Nah, I've seen some really chubby, perhaps even a few obese people on bicycles. Common, cycling is much, MUCH less energy demanding than walking, as one doesn't need to spend energy just to keep oneself standing - only rolling forward, and chugging along with some 8-12km/h on an even road is really easy. Uphill way is hard, true, but I live in almost flat country with no mountains, just some hills.
The real problem is being literally butthurt for a week or two before you get used to that hard, narrow seat, but not all bikes has this problem, some are more comfy.
