And it's not really true, that they had ammunition and fuel in short supply, it just wasn't transported (not yet) to where the tanks were stationed at that moment. Why? Because USSR has just invaded and occupied large territories in the West, thus their forces moved West leaving their infrastructure behind. Simply put - hadn't Soviets have invaded Poland, Baltic states, Romania and Finland, they would have been in much, much better position, besides German supply lines would be more stretched, which would put Germans even more into disadvantage.
