  16. Let's do a similar checklist for my coutry: Beautiful beaches, shallow coastal waters and no natural harbours (except a few river mouth) and no navigable rivers deeper inland - yeap, those all check out. Except my country is one of fastest developing ones in Europe. I guess the answers here are: - have a democracy and international cooperation; - fight corruption (anti-corruption efforts actually largely come bundled with democracy); - when judicial and political systems become more stable, investment will come; - build artificial harbours; - build railways and pipelines inland. It's harder than in most other places, but geography does not doom Africa to powerty. I see ethnic hodtilities and corruption as greatest dangers to their countries, like when theuly vote for a member of a certain tribe and political programme is completely irreverent. So... Maybe some borders in Africa should change or some countries should be divided into autonomies to switch from "us versus them" mindset in African politics to actual development. P.S. My native language is neither Slavic, nor Germanic or a Romance one, and our neighbours speak a language not even from the Indo-European group at all. XD Thus I don't exactly see that on it's own as a problem. Where my country certainly is in much more better situation than most places in Africa is arable land - pretty much whole territory (except parts taken by swamp, which are A LOT) and white sand with seldom any soil over it. However, we got very pronounced seasons - temperature variation is more extreme than in Southern Europe, which impacts railways - rails must work even when they shrink and extend in around 80°C range in between summer and winter.
