  1. Even so bad driver as me could drive BMW in wither in Northern Europe. With a manual. Cars I drove for some time were a really old 528i of my stepfather and a bit newer 316 from my workplace (most basic version, it even got drum brakes on rear axle). Thus I don't think it's such a big problem. But, of course, winter tires here are mandatory from several months every year.
