Like for any other population group we can pick margins for definition of a "race" voluntarily, yet these criteria for a particular group can be pretty solid if we talk not from racist point of view to justify slavery, supposed "superiority" and social injustice, but health issues like ability to protect people from ultraviolet rays leading to skin cancer or synthesise vitamin D, or being prone to death by something seemingly harmless as pollen of legumes, or take something recent like Covid-19 - it's more deadly to Eastern Asians than Africans, or ability to metabolize alcohol or consume excessive doses of vitamin A without harm to oneself etc.
Scientific definitions a "a race" are plenty, just like there are dozens of systems for blood types, depends on particular criteria. In some aspects "white race" includes everyone from Atlantic coast of Europe all the way to Northern India (yes, that includes Jews, Arabs, Persians and other "brown people", I don't think racists would like this one 😆), while in system, which was used in Soviet anthropology, even Europeans were divided in numerous smaller races.
