  1. +Engineering Explained Really? Here (Latvia, North-East Europe) it is, or at least was not so long ago, mandatory. Peraps now there is an option to choose automatmatic transmision for exam. The idea is (or was) - learn a bit harder way, get into the basics on how engine and transmission works, and afterwards do whatever you like.

  2. No Name People with special needs obviously are an exception to this, some cars even have all manual (no pedals) brakes and accelerator. One of my colleges has one arm only partly functional (he can move arm, but not fingers) after a stroke, now he drives cars with automatic transmission, but he actually started driving back in Soviet times and has a lot of experience with manual.
