Dogs are stupid old analog computers, that demand for the input from user every few minutes, where cats are self-programming, self-sustaining cyborgs.
Just kidding.
But really, my wife told me of her childhood experience. She had a dog since she was very small, and then they got a cat too. At first she was somewhat confused, like "what should I do with this... cat? Why doesn't she follow any commands?" As time passed, she realized you don't give commands to a cat, you don't do anything with it, but you can somewhat talk to it. At least that cat sometines even answered with questioning "Mmm?" And pretty soon cat sort of subdued the dog, size doesn't matter here, if cat want's a particular place on a sofa - she gets it just by standing still and giving the dog laying there that non-blinking Hannibal Lecter stare. Pretty soon dog starts to feel anxious and leaves. 8D

I'd say it's not just people, it's culture. The Western civilization is the first that subdued religion to society, not the other way around. The West also is the only one, that get rid of slavery and persuaded most others do do likewise... or forced them to do so; Western imperialism, yeah (well, most, not everyone, some Arab states still have "non-slavery")! This is unprecedented in the history of humankind.
P.S. When I say "culture", it's because the colour of ones skin or spoken language doesn't matter, if she or he has grown up in a westernized society, with some exceptions.

If your mind gets controlled, you would not notice that anyway.
Viruses, chemical agents, drugs etc do alter our behaviour, so... but there is (almost) no animals to feed on us, so no, we don't have pulsating eyes, limbs or somethin like that, but there is less obvious ways. Take the "Spanish fly" for example, it irritates urinal canal and by this drives men to misjudge it as sexual exitement, it's purely chemical, toxic actually and could be deadly, but if there where such STD ...
