I also grew up in USSR, thus I became a sworn anti-Soviet (ярый антисоветчик). The most shocking part for me is, that people who have lived in USSR themselves fell for very similar BS again Why?! How is this even possible?! Why to me Soviet propaganda served as a sort of vaccine, making me able to notice similar trends and spark that "never again!" feeling, while they bought it again hook, line and sinker, like "it feels so familiar and comfy! Maybe THIS TIME it will turn out to be true? Let's try the same cool-aid again!"
The other shocking part is ungreatfulness (or is it "ingratitude"?), Americans saved Russia from hunger or at least run relief efforts in 1891, in 1920s and in 1990s, yet so many Russians readily forgot that and sing to the tune of "America has always been our enemy". HOW?! One possible explanation is unwillingness to admit their own failures, so instead of learning from past mistakes, they prefer to "save face" by getting angry at those, who helped them, who saw their weakness.
