TheFirearmEnthusiast A new one? Because Soviet era production should't have such defects... in theory. I remember reading an advice from 1990s Latvian (that's Nort-East ex-Soviet part of Europe) car magazine on how to choose and buy a seconf-hand car was to look if it's symmetrical, because if it isn't, that may indicate she has been in an accident. A note followed - that doesn't mean anything if it's a "Moskvitch" (a car made in Moscow AZLK factory), since being a bit scewed has been a norm for them for decades. 8D

TheFirearmEnthusiast That's what I suspected - an "Izh" aka "Baikal" (their name for export). Since 1990s or even late 1980s QC on Russian production is almost non-existing. On Russian gun blogs and sites one can find really terrible examples of pistols, where barrel is obviously not coaxial with the slide, brand new military issue guns having metal shavings in them stuck in cosmoline (sometimes ammo also includes foreign bodies) and other horror stuff. Rumour has it, that the only batch of AKs that was made with good QC and tolerances were AK-103 for Venezuela. No wonder the factory nearly bankrupted, so the state had to intervene in save it.
