Hmm, to find a way around that patent I'd make a conical drum, which would be somewhat more difficult to make, but would be the same as regular revolver from users perspective, perhaps just a little bulkier. P.S. Same with bore through cylinder. Cone in not a cylinder, if the taper is noticeable enough. XD
