  1. One of inflation calculators I just looked up gave this result: $25 in 1864 → $408.55 in 2019 I 'd say, that mere ~410 bucks are still not much for a fine and advanced weapon. P.S. Well, maybe not so fine, it had some problems.

I can't say about US, I live in one of the poorest EU coutries, an ex-Soviet one/ Here minimal pay after taxes are around 365 Euros, average is somewhere in the region of 1000 Euros, while median (which is closer to most typical wage than average one, as it excludes extra high and extra low wages) is nearly 1/3 lower. This would put the price for my country above 200 Euros then, which is more than 2200 USD.
