  1. I'm not so sure it's something new. My old rusty "Golf III" (just gave it away to scrap) was slowing down very noticeably as soon as accelerator pedal was released (unless clutch was pressed, of course, as then slowing down was negligible). Breaking with an engine is a thing, you know. Now I got another German car with a variator from 2000s, it too slows down, but much less than a car with manual. P.S. OK, EVs do indeed slow at much faster rate, which could be dangerous. Interesting.
