  1. To be honest most people in Europe also can't name most american States or countries in Africa and Asia. Not to mention even Oblasts in Russia. BUT! Most people still should at least know few major ones. Like Florida, California or Texas. Egipt, Israel, Republic of South Africa. Iraq, Iran or Saudi Arabia. Korea, Japan and India. So Americans clearly have severe lack of even basic education, if they don't know even that.
