Speaking about War Games people constantly forget that they are available to general public because CIA, want them to be available or because they were run independently (=without full insight). NATO standard in such cases also assume facing enemy of the NATO standard, as preparing for the worst, make your hopes for the best more valid. Publicly available war games, usually serve purpose of attracting additional military spending. No one would ever reveal what is your actual weak spot. Scale of buzz about Suwalki Gap make my straight suspect that it is intentional bait.

Talking about Western response, people constantly forget about Pearl Harbor. While attrition of citizen support make sense in case of expeditionary wars, where many people questioned why US is in Vietnam or Afganistan. That is not applicable to cases of direct attack. In such cases answer of society against such staggering losses, would be call for revenge. So situation would not repeat in future. Practically Western support can only deteriorate when West itself is not in a direct threat.

Ok, seriously. NATO never intended to invade Russia. So whole barking game of Russia, was basically targeted into the air. West hesitated to send weapons to Ukraine. In fear of repeat from Afganistan, so idea that Russia could just sweep Ukraine, with Ukrainian soldiers surrendering in bulk with they new NATO standard hardware. In fact plans at the time overestimated Russia and was assumed that Russia would face massive attrition from partisan, when NATO would rearm in next few decades. Ukraine actually wining, catch everyone of guard and NATO has insufficient quantities of storage surplus to reinforce Ukraine. But in the end majority of media buzz is a nonsense. It is clear that gears of West slowly start grinding, when Russia already start overheating.
