  4. In context of Kabbalah hybrid creatures (including wheels) are actually not angels, but different aspects of God, who operate somewhat like Hive-mind (it is why God say "we" in Genesis). Because names tend to be confused. Those angels who fly around God throne (symbolized by menorah) are direct sources of God's power (aspects of God). Maybe be described as wheels or winged snakes (fire peacock tailed birds?). Then we have another set of entities present in the creation, what basically represent natural elements. Those are usually depicted as animalistic hybrids, representing different element. Who obey only God. Christ himself is sometimes depicted as Lamb or Peacock (possibly griffin like hybrid). But then we have also lesser angels typically depicted as winged animals with swords (non-Christian Cherubim) or as Burning Spirits (non-Christian Seraphim). Those messengers who show up as humans, most likely just take such forms to not confuse people. It is most commonly used when prophet and angel talking, but bible mention large number of eldritch animals hanging somewhere in the background.
