  2. RFC3514 It is old game you know? Obviously it have worst graphic even if it was great at the time. Also I didn't referee to graphic. What I'm saying that here it is basically a plot dump. We literally don't have reason to care about those people and don't know in fact that they're even good or bad on end. In Homeworld it was explained to us who those people are and why they organize exploration mission. Even if we know about risk, planet destruction come in third mission after we back for help after surprise encounter in test run and literally kick our balls, as that wasn't even first promise of game. And obviously great dramatic narrator and music make that complete. I literally repeat this mission few times because I try save as much pods from destruction as I could. Even if nowadays it is quite cliche it was still one of best executed beginnings of the game.. especially considering low amount of resources put in it as it was mostly made in in-game cut-scenes.

Homeworld start with quite optimistic "beginning new era of exploration" intro even if it foreshadow some encounter, but then after some basic training and rescue crap game itself basically kick you in the balls. Here? We have exposition dump..
