I thought I was bipolar after watching a show with a bipolar character and having a literally me moment but it seemed to make sense when my doctor said I wasn't exhibiting signs of mania as well as of depression. I think she ended up getting shuffled away from being a family doctor - it's a specific regulatory role in the system where I live - but I think she was right. My brother gets episodes of hypomania followed by depressive symptoms, but he doesn't sit in his room all day pissing the couch when he's depressive, and he doesn't sell his stock portfolio to buy an avocado farm in Nicaragua when he's manic. I don't know if "slightly bipolar" is a real thing though - can a person have one toe in bipolar while still being able to manage, or is this a normal range thing for a lot of people, to have very intense but still subclinical ups and downs in their life? What if somebody has similar patterns with less healthy outlets but finds they can't manage as well with the day-to-day?
