Back in colonial times, the Muslims were a separate administrative category, whereas Sikhs along with very many other religions were lumped in with Hindus. Therefore any successor state for which a Khalistani might agitate would implicitly be expected to be carved out of Republic of India, as Pakistan and Bangladesh all ready represent the successor states created for former British subjects administered separately due to their Muslim faith in the Colony of India. not to hasbara too hard for Khalistan, but

@savemankind738 I suspect the justification is that since Sikhs in colonial times were within the administrative grouping which was assigned what is now Republic of India on decolonization, Republic of India is the country out from which Khalistanis who really want a Khalistan believe it would be appropriate to carve. If I hasbarad that much, I might as well hasbara some more. 😃

@savemankind738 One of these days, I need to do find a monograph on Indian nationalism and the Sikh autonomist movement between WWI and WWII, something with a Vincent Massie level of detail on events and names, an undergraduate seminar level of monograph, because that's one period I would like better to understand.

It's also funny you say third. I had an immersion teacher who was prone to fits of rage in front of the class. I used cursive for two years in school because she said it was <<pitoyable>> that we were in middle school all ready and couldn't do cursive. Switched to all caps printing except for algebra in grade ten when my German teacher said if we had messy handwriting, just print everything. One time when she was melting down about one thing or another, she said you're only really a Canadian after seven generations. I was the only kid who put up his hand. It makes me think of the verse in The Bible, the sins of the father shall be visited upon the son, unto the seventh generation. Of course, back then, it was before Harper tore off the final veil that made it possible to pretend "Canadian values" were still a thing.

My advice, get done with your mourning process on your own schedule. Nobody calls Somalia a poststate nation. They call it a failed state. Canada is a currency and a passport, and you have to be happy with that. Support your own region or municipality or province, and don't expect for it to have anything in common with the ones next door.

@TheRamnath007 oh mass migration's not really a solution for an aging population, because the mass migrants will just use the same policies that got them in to bring in their aging parents as well, so that means another four elderly people for two workers with the back halves of their careers left. These provinces will never retain top talent, either, because of the attitude the lefties have toward taxation, which mean you have to be an idiot to stick around in these provinces if you're a tech guy worth his salt. At this point, there has been for a few years an entire subgenre on Quora of guys from India who qualify the 1970s style points system way - English and a STEM degree - and last about eight months of snow, homeless people, and shittier condos than they get in their little upper middle class enclaves in India. Mass migration will continue to be a decent medium term nominal GDP boost, which will make borrowing more favourable for the government in Ottawa, so politically, it will remain a third rail issue. It is not something that is ever going to stop.
