@dezzodarling It's because there's no agreement on matters of principle at the level of Canada itself, and there was never any dominant ethnicity at the level of Canada itself. (neither the First Nations nor the francophones were ever fully wiped out or fully admixed away, the size of the geography made regionalism inevitable, and migration from even more parts of the world continued after conquest in 1763.) Canada held together as a nation-within-an-empire for a century, one could argue longer if one stretches it back before Confederation, and has slowly lost its national identity ever since. What holds it together is spending. Either different regions will begin to separate from one another, or else the bureaucrats in Ottawa will realize that the only way they have of maintaining their caste's interests is to do what the Tsars did in Russia when confronted with the problem of how to maintain authority over dispersed population centres with little culturally in common, and to institute a very similar secret police system in order to prop up an authoritarian regime. This is plainly a sufficiently acceptable idea in Montreal.

@sandeepram2289 Trudeau has known he was gone since 2023. The only doubt in my head as to whether he will be gone in 2025 is whether there are indeed legal loopholes which would allow him to push off the election further.
