I work as a Trauma ICU nurse and the homeless population I see in the hospital that are beaten for sport are some of the kindest, most appreciative and honest people you will ever meet. When I first started I assumed a lot of them were on drugs or drinking but so often their toxicology screens were completely negative, they were just dealing with severe mental illness.

Vets should always have a pet . It’s amazing what an animals unconditional love can do for stress, depression, and PTSD. I’m a trauma ICU nurse and I have heard patients that have tried to commit suicide say that they held on until their pet died. I tell families if they want to help go buy another dog or cat for them. It worked for me too, I think it’s the love plus the responsibility. If something happens to me no one will love my dog as much as me and I’m his person too. A good spouse helps too but sometimes you don’t want to burden them. I hope his mental health improves, it sucks to be sad and angry.
