  2. Once, my kids brought a stray cat home when we already had a dog. You are right. It depends somewhat on the personalities of the specific animals.There is a trick to making it work. If you keep the cat confined to one part of the house for a week or two, they gradually become used to each other by scent. They somehow negotiated the interspecies communication.
