  4. Richard Monroe, You are correct. This would impact some places more than others. I live in Alberta where vast numbers are in denial about what it means for us to expand our oil production because they need the jobs. There was a protest at our Legislature on the first day of the summit in Poland, but it was three "protesters" with bags containing 7,000 identical printed letters of support for getting the pipeline through. Small, but that was it. There were no opposing marchers, at least that arrived on the news. We have a provincial "Climate Leadership Plan" that will provide us with rebates for energy efficient light bulbs and a carbon tax. The plan is silent on the environmental devastation of the tar sands. Maybe economies will become more local and change in other ways. There are a lot of things that we don't need in the marketplace. We spend energy producing things that people don't need. The FIRE sectors seem not to build anything and perpetuate the system that we have.
