It does not seem analogous to compare a lab accident that resulted in one death to the spread of a global pandemic. It must be statistically correct that mistakes will occasionally happen in all labs. Viruses are not political and can originate in any country. I wonder if this is in response to Trump's egregious comments on China's role in the pandemic? It may seem unfair that people in China be compelled to prove that the virus was not started in a lab. Still, if I were in that position, I would be as transparent as I possibly could, as others will lie for their own political reasons. The only way to manage such disasters well is to stick to facts. We have never seen an event like COVID 19 in our lifetimes, and are sure to be learning from the experience for decades. Science will demand a study of how all governments handled it and the results thereof.
