  4. I love "The Road Not Taken." Frost was wicked though. It pertains to the difficulty of this issue succinctly. The choice was not clear, in the end, it seemed like a coin toss. And that has made all the difference. :)

I would agree with Aristotle, except that if one regards the masses as rude and unlearned does not emphasize that something can be learned by every person and that it is a noble thing to teach other people. Also, the definition of excellence seems narrow. I prefer Taylor's view. I wish that philosophy 101 had gone the extra mile and discussed Taylor with Aristotle. Thanks for doing it here.

Then turned into Brief Interviews with Horrible Men and suggested that she is probably a witch anyway. A woman may not view "You can meet me" as an amorous advance. Your amorous feelings seem more for yourself.

  11. I agree with you. A side note: You are thinking of Christianity and Islam, I think. The separateness of mind and body is not as big in some eastern religions. Most religions threw in some law and order and survival components in addition to God's will, for good measure. In Islam and Christianity, this was done in a patriarchal way, so it's the separation of mind and body with the women receiving the harsher punishments. (God may have done that too when he came up with childbirth, but this is an event of short duration.) In any case, I agree with you.

An example might be that there are some 42 million black people in the States. There would be a lot of influence in politically considered buying choices.

  34. OK Judaism, Christianity...but this does not exclude Christianity. The reason I mentioned an eye for an eye is that it is the closest thing I can think of as a penalty clause for human on human crime. We apparently have God's permission to be horrible to people who treat us badly. Do you think that there is a God in Heaven who thought up our ideal moral code and wrote it on stone tablets? I don't see how either is not just something we made up. It sounds like murder and slavery do not fit your concept of "good." Mine either.

  41. I may already be able to do this with meditation, I can turn meaning into abstraction for the time I am doing it. The rest of my life is defined by values I place on things. It gives my existence form and defines what freedom is. You seem to like "freedom" and "happiness". Would if you value these things did if you did not give them meaning? I wonder if this mode of thinking would be useful to someone who had lost the things that were once important to him as in cataclysm and war. It reminds me of the psychological state "disassociation."

  44. I think you are correct, deee fqdd, but he may have expounded on Jung's work by studying common myths that run through different cultures. I read everything by Campbell after discovering his work, but only recently read "Modern Man in Search of a Soul." Jung was a genius.
