An important feature is that if the natural washes are preserved, desert washes can remain corridors for wildlife to sometimes coexist well with development. It's a small portion of the development costs. Sometimes developers prefer the bottom line, but there are negative externalities. If planners make too many demands in this arena, it can negatively impact housing affordability. It's always a trade-off.
