"The Great Delusion" by John Mearsheimer is an excellent book on these spatial hierarchies.

@evni6208 That might be a good idea. When I tell people I have a degree in cultural geography, they seem to regard it with confusion and suspicion that it is not a real field of study. I like it the best, though.

@Joseph-uv2ud It would make you spatial, but you probably found another path to that through your natural inclination. I was sucked right in, and the parts of it that were geopolitical did not seem like work, as they were so exciting. Maybe everyone who hits the right major feels that way? It is often surprising and informative to throw data on a map. It made me decide to be an urban planner, and I did that for thirty exciting years. Everything has a spatial component. People do it for different reasons, social, environmental or economic. Learning the social geography of a city, then designing different elements that promote improvement that will integrate them to create opportunities for people, then getting the ideas through the political process and eventually seeing them implemented can be very rewarding.
