@eduardamay3568 I’m not American but the general view of South America from outside is that it’s full of corruption and desperate criminals. It’s explained on our tourism advice that criminals in South America often murder you after robbing you. It’s exceptionally violent. And unstable. Brazilians I’ve met have been really nice people. We don’t think all the people are like that but we would be damn careful if we went there.

I’m not sure about the US system but under the legal system in my country, she had a pretty good defence. He had multiple domestic violence on her, she could have said she was fearing for her life and blinded by revenge for years of abuse. Add wine and a terrible outcome but “it was the actions of a woman tormented by years of abuse and fearing of reprisals” Here, she would have got a few years, probs 10-15 but out in 7 and the world would have rushed to the “poor female victim” and she’d had probably written a book and become a feminist icon of defence and empowerment. She took a really stupid route but I think in the US they love life sentences regardless but here she could have had a very easy ride because of the DV/defenceless woman fights back angle
