In Australia, you can turn right or left on a red light in certain circumstances: Right on red
You can turn right on a red light if you come to a complete stop, check that the intersection is clear, and wait for a break in oncoming traffic.
Left on red
You can turn left on a red light if there is a sign that says "Left Turn on Red Permitted After Stopping". You must stop at the stop line, check that it is safe, and give way to other vehicles and pedestrians.
Traffic lights with arrows
You must stop at a red arrow, but you can turn at a green arrow if it is safe.
You should not make a U-turn at traffic lights unless there is a sign that says "U-turn permitted".
