@SwampTrooper2005 How does that excuse tearing down beautiful buildings, then replacing them with massive parking lots, or tall ice-cube trays? How does that excuse all the blandness that's been built in suburbia? After W.W. II, suburbia was extremely prosperous, so why all the cheap/tacky architecture? The two generations before the boomers really could be very cold, robotic, and severe. I can just imagine their rationalizing cliché (accompanied by a shoulder shrug): "Well, that's progress." 🙄

Uh, Mr. Booster, Detroit has lost 2/3rds of its population! 🙄🙄 Have you actually moved into Detroit proper, or would you admit that you've always lived in the suburbs (and always will)?

@annwilliams6438 OH, PLEAAASE! 🙄🙄 Detroit has been a Republican stronghold? Detroit hasn't had a Republican mayor since 1-2-1962. Actually, this is the deal: no preferable demographics, no infrastructure (or safety, prosperity, tranquility, etc.).

@Knightmessenger Pollution was a big factor: it was much worse in the past. Also, changing demographics, rising crime (including destructive riots), closing factories, less parking, etc.

@Knightmessenger "weren't all of these true everywhere, not just in North America?" HUH?! Uh, dude, cities "everywhere" haven't been evolving/devolving the same as in N.A. For example, have Tokyo, Seoul, Beijing, Honk Kong, Singapore, etc. been experiencing as much demographic change–or been dealing with crime–as much as the urban U.S.? Uh, no.
