You're comparing a city with 2.7 million people to a town with only 69 k.

Cadillac Kadafi "Gary Indiana is a Chicago suburb..." So are Winnetka, Glencoe, Hinsdale, Lake Forrest, and many other ultra-rich towns in Chicagoland.
45
Cadillac Kadafi Yeah, and the Continental U.S. is connected together by the Interstate Highway System (too).

Australia has much, much, much easier demographics–duh! 🙄🙄 "The extremes of wealth are perplexing..." That's because you're naïve. "...‘the land of the free.'" Australia: the land of the naïve.

@loveroflife8852 Do you actually live in Detroit proper? Detroit has lost 2/3rds of its population.
7
HUH?! Dude, it's not a "bad rap" at all: using per capita rates–vs. raw totals–is just common sense (for those who didn't flunk math). 🙄🙄 "In terms of pure numbers, no one comes close to Chicago!" Dude, Chicago has 2.7 million people. New Orleans: 384 k. St. Louis: 293 k. Last year, New Orleans had a homicide RATE almost THREE-TIMES worse than Chicago's! What state are you from? What's the real reason that you hate Chicago?
5
@Roger-wf8sj "Gary is Chicago" Gary is Indiana.
4
@Crucio_Occidere "of course Chicago is worse than gary." HUH?! Uh, no. "gary is only a small piece of the greater Chicago area." Yeah, just like ultra-wealthy suburbs like Winnetka, Kenilworth, Glencoe, Hinsdale, etc.
3
@saywtfiwant9935 "Gary can be scary but still safer than Chicago." Yeah, AS IF all Chicago's neighborhoods are the same! What you wrote certainly doesn't apply to my neighborhood.
3
@MegaBait1616 If it was so bad, then why did you work there for 40 years? I've lived in Chicago for the last 33 years. My neighborhood is awesome. It's all about the demographics of the neighborhood. You know: pretty much like the U.S. in general.
3
@joalyincontroly4379 "Chicago is indeed much worse than Gary." HUH?! Uh, no. Since 1990, Gary's population has declined about 40%. Meanwhile, Chicago's is almost the same. People vote with their feet, right?
3
@steelisthemeal The whole city isn't mean. How do I know? Because I've lived in Chicago for the last 33 years. What are your credentials.
3
Why? Don't you even know what "per capita" means? For example, last year, New Orleans had a homicide RATE that was almost THREE-TIMES worse than Chicago's!
3
@twt000 Or any news from New York. New York and L.A. are in cahoots: they both have it in for Chicago.
2
@punchblmers192 Gary is just Chicago's little sister..." Dude, Gary is in Indiana. On the other hand, Winnetka, Kenilworth, Glencoe, Hinsdale, and many other little sisters of Chicago are in Illinois. "...they both are worst." Oh, SHUT UP! Dude, the whole city of Chicago doesn't have the same demographics as Gary.
2
@AlvinSeville1 "...but the times I've been there for the most part has been very bad." You're writing about the third-largest city in the U.S. So, what does "there" mean? I've actually lived "there" for the last 33 years, and it's certainly not "very bad" where I live. "I'm sure there are good parts such as..." Uh, so why didn't you only visit the good parts (and stay out of the bad parts)?
2
It's about per capita rates, not raw totals.
2
For the last 29 years, I've lived in a Chicago "hamlet." Why is my neighborhood so much safer than other 'hoods? Demographics (duh).
2
Dude, do you even know what "per capita" means?
2
(19:13) The classic lamps are lipstick on a pig.
1
@AlvinSeville1 The whole city isn't nasty. How do I know? Because I've lived in Chicago for the last 33 years. It's mostly about the demographics of the neighborhoods. You know: pretty much like the U.S. in general. What state are you from?
1
@scott5669 "Chicago is the Number # 1 Rat Capito, in the world!" Pure propaganda! No way does Chicago have more rats than N.Y. So, every city in the world has done a rat census?
1
@johnrogers1251 2022 was 695. Get your facts straight.
1
@steelisthemeal "those are all on the north side" What's your point?
1
The list reflects per capita rates: not homicide totals per se.
1
It's the per capita rates, not the totals per se. For example, last year, New Orleans had a homicide RATE that was almost THREE-TIMES worse than Chicago's! What state are you from?
1
The U.S. has challenging demographics–duh.
1
@whatevergoaway Where did I write that it does? 🙄

@Xaviermontenegro1267 I don't know if you realize that Detroit has lost 2/3rds of its population. "...how booming Detroit is" News flash: "Detroit gained 1,852 people from July 1, 2022, to July 1, 2023, according to new data from the U.S. Census Bureau... "It is the first time the city has gained population year over year since 1957..." Okay, "boomer." 🙄🙄
