"Just moved to Taos, New Mexico..."
Uh, so, you're comparing a town in rural New Mexico–with only 5,929 people–to a city with 2.7 million people (in a metropolitan area with 9.5 million)? Wouldn't Chicago vs. Albuquerque be a little more apt?
"Chicago is highly taxed..."
Naturally. We send more money to Springfield than we get back, and we're in Illinois–a state that pays D.C. more than it receives (vs. New Mexico, the most heavily subsidized state in the country).
"crime ridden..."
Hey, LOOK (at neighborhoodscout.com, 100 Most Dangerous Cities, 2021)!
Albuquerque: 21st most violent
Chicago: 73rd most violent
Headline (6-25-21): "Albuquerque on pace to break homicide record this year"
Headline: "Albuquerque had more homicides in 2019 than any other year in the city's history."
"polluted..."
Uh, well, is that not be expected? Again, Taos only has 5,929 people (vs. 9.5 million people). Besides, Chicago borders heavily industrialized, northwest Indiana. We can't all live in splendid isolation; we can't all live far from airports, factories, etc. You think Chicago is polluted now? Holy cow, you should've seen the air, lake, and river pollution back in 1970! Chicago is much, much less polluted today.
"intolerable weather..."
Intolerable weather? Uh, like wildfire weather (e.g., Little Bear in 2012, Las Conchas in 2011, etc.)?
