  5. Wrong! Cossacks are a grouping of nomads.The Cossacks dont belong to any particular nationality. Most of the Cossacks of Don have a mixed ancestry – part Central Russian, part Southerners, with strong Tatar with Polish influences., You cannot, as the western media has done, categorise them ethnically. People who identify as Cossacks live in the Russia, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, and other parts of the world. There is a Russian paramilitary formation called the Registered Cossacks of the Russian Federation. It consists of contemporary Russian Cossack from various parts of Russia. The Council of Cossack affairs under the President of the Russian Federation cites 140,000 Cossacks in Russia, with 11 Cossack societies registered. The number of Cossack descendants is however much larger. Sorry to burst everybody's bubble - Cossacks are not fighting against but for Russia!!
