  1. Follow the money! Interview a black hat digital marketer. Someone like Ryan Holiday who wrote a book a few years back titled "trust me I'm lying". Guys like him have real experience with the cat and mouse game of manipulating media in the name of digital marketing. Platforms have traffic to sell, publishers need as much traffic as they can get on a limited budget. This ends up in an endless cycle of innovating clever tactics to game the platforms for cheap or free traffic. The people who got banned were likely employing some of these tactics just like everyone else. Why? because it works and most people can't get an edge with pure white hat TOS compliant traffic gen strategies. Are these companies using their TOS as a weapon to promote an agenda? It's possible, even probable...but you need to understand the monetary ecosystem these and other smaller publishers have to work within to really understand the nature of the beast.
