  1. I'm a European and I can name surprisingly little of what I learned in school. Reading, writing, arithmetic, and all the European countries, their capitals, and the major rivers in Europe, and the basics of how the human body works. That's all I can really remember. Everything else I learned about the world comes from books, news, and the internet. So in my opinion, it's not the education system that's to blame for people being ignorant.

  2. I don't think it's the education system. I live in Europe and I didn't learn most of these things in school either. In my opinion, it's the consumerism that isolates people from the real world that's causing this.
